The Park
I enter the park
Just like every other day
I come here for one reason
And one reason alone
To see life.
To see the small birds
Floating lazily in the air
Tweeting a greeting for all to hear
To see the squirrel
Scramble up a tree
To see the give-give relationship
Between the flower and the bee.
I see the small children
Running, playing, and laughing
I see the elderly couple holding hands.
I see the looks of content
The looks of glee
The looks of love
The looks are key.
I keep moving
A silent observer
Not earning a second glance
But that doesn’t matter to me
I’m here to experience and feel
Not to seek attention.
I stop by the lake
To watch the ducks a-swaying
Darting under and flashing up
In one smooth motion.
I find an old oak tree
And sit at its trunk
I close my eyes and smile
The soft wind brushes my hair
The warm sun dances across my face
The sweet scent billows around me.
The scent of oak mixed with pine
Of freshly cut grass.
The sound of laughter rolls through the air
Encompassing my entire being
I close my eyes once again
And relish in the sound.
If there’s one thing the park has shown me
It is that you cannot have love
Without laughter.
