Singing for Sunshine
Singing-
But who can sing?
A bluebird balances on metal wire
And tests out his lungs.
Even the caged bird can sing.
Can a river sing,
the melody of a stream,
Silver water running on rounded rocks?
For-
For who?
For the wind and the sun and the sky.
For the grass on the meadow, swaying with the breeze.
For the lion and the mouse,
The tortoise and the hare.
Sunlight-
Those golden rays.
We open our eyes and are guided by them.
Why does the rooster crow at dawn?
That light that rises in the East,
Sets in the West.
The voice that guides us,
calls to us,
“Wake up! Wake up!”
To which we are grateful for.
But what is sunlight?
I do not know.
