Eclipse
Slowly darkness engulfs you
Stealing bits and pieces as it advances
How do you escape total darkness?
Pain whirls blindingly all around you
So you hit rock bottom
How do you escape total darkness?
You cower in the corner as blood rushes down your arm
Again I ask,
How do you escape total darkness?
Again and again you trap yourself in this obnoxiously ominous void
Seemingly convinced you are nothing, mean nothing
Yet suddenly the fog clears, the birds chirp, the wind sings
And the thrashing voices in your mind seize
The pain forgotten
As an angelic voice projects out behind the glow of a bright light
A light that you clutch on to
Because once you see that light and grab a hold of it
There's no turning back
The eclipse escapes you
This poem is just a way for me to tell people that depression doesn't last forever. I've been there, so I wanted to share my experience with everyone. In class we were encouraged to write about something we could relate to, and I instantly picked up my pencil and started writing this poem. It gives me some kind of closure. I wanted to share it.
