Inheritance of Youth
He did not know
that by shooting down the street
his childhood landmarks
would become relics
The boy kept going
thinking that he could turn around
and no time would have passed
(there were still plenty of grains of sand)
He became a man
in an unspoken whisper;
later he found himself in a place
and body he did not recognize
The man accepted adulthood
with a bowed head
so no one could see
the confusion spilling from his eyes
Now his son wants to go
down a different street
but with the same soul
as the old man used to own
