Brandon's Little Poems about Everything, Part 26
“O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done,
The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won,
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.”
“O Captain! my Captain!”
You’ve gone so soon dear friend!
You gave us laughs in spades and barrels
While your head span in graves in fables
“O Captain! my Captain!”
You swam in blood as you slept, didn’t you?
You woke up with a head split and spun
And your smile lines hid the red in those eyes twinkling blue
“O Captain! my Captain!”
Your table is set, we made your bed
We’ll do like you and make them laugh and their guts will burn so hot
They won’t even notice the fire in their head.
