I Sleep with a Stuffed Puppy
My puppy is soft like silk, gentle and kind
My back-up backbone, a savior so quiet,
A gift from a loved one, proudly he’s mine.
Silent all day, listens all night, he needs no necessities, a sublime diet
He chews troublesome troubles, sips homesickness,
Tiny paws hold tremors of a boy missing his misses.
My puppy loves me lots, with every seamless stitch, with gentle lightning quickness,
Metaphorical magical magnificent, wet-tongue-kisses,
A hero with beady eyes,
A gentle earth shaking love quaking adversity,
Holding happiness still until tranquil sunrise.
And as this boy lies at night so imperfectly,
His puppy curls against his chest, a blessing from above,
Pristine, perfect, pure, call it puppy love.

This is an ode to a little stuffed animal who helped me through the worst bout of homesickness I hope I ever feel.
