Friends Forever? Forever.
I saw her today
but she wasn't like I remembered.
She'd changed so much since I saw her last December.
Gone was her cheerful smile
swapped with one with much disdain.
I tried to ask her what was wrong
but from that I abstained.
She ignored me in the halls
to and from our classes,
she wasn't with me anymore
she had joined the masses.
Long forgotten were the inside jokes, the memories, the fun.
She didn't like me anymore
that ship had sailed and gone.
But there I stayed on the dock,
awaiting her return.
And then it hit me--she wasn't coming back
and from the loss I burned.
I see her still from time to time
but never like before.
They're faint glimpses of the past
all of the oaths we swore.
And though that ship is seas away
others still arrive,
perhaps that friendship didn't live
but others will survive.
