On Others' Mantle-Pieces
I see people take photos in public
And a lot of the time
I stand back to give them space
I don’t want to ruin the image
But sometimes I’ll walk right by
And as the camera flashes
I realize
I’ve become part of a moment
A piece of time
Set in place
A stranger in a foreign year
I travel between memories
Of strangers I’ll never meet
A vagabond through the photos
On others’ mantle-pieces
I wonder,
Would we ever feel
As Alone as we do
If we realized
How many pictures we have of each other?
Say ‘Cheese’!
