In Your Absence
There was a howling in the wind
The day after you left
The day after you left me
As if
Even the sky
Need to cry out
For my pain
And my suffering
and it rained
and rained
and rained
And I wondered
Why wasn't I enough?
Why couldn't you just trust
the potency of our love?
How was I crippled?
What part of me misplaced?
That I could no longer breathe?
I couldn't dream
I couldn't taste
You'd taken all my passion with you
And as surely as you wouldn't
I knew it couldn't
return to me
You uttered your goodbye
And the time had run its hours
But ever since you left me
Nothing has been sweet
And everything has become sour
You ruined my disposition
With your kindness and your smile
I'd only hoped to have you back
I would've walked a million miles
But nothing is the same now
And this tragedy has not been averted
I knew I would love you
I told you
I was certain
Everything has changed now
And nothing will change
From this time and this place
All my agony
All my burdens
Of my love for you
They will remain
Though you have disappeared
Without even the slightest courtesy
Of leaving me any trace
But my adoration continues
In your absence
It still grows
IN the hope that through your window
Through the rain
Through the distance
You will know
In the hope that
someday
You will wake
And you will finally
come
home
