Life long lesson
It is a pity that life does seem
to render forth the wicked dream
of ever elusive, pungent sorrow
promising smiles for every morrow
an oath of narrow, rather than rise or fall
selfishly tempting it lures us all
plunging to pillow to drench with tears
cursing the hour as it nears
to stand with pride and face the jury
sheepishly, humbly, accepting the worry
upon your knees, the sentenced decreed
the pain upon your soul will feed
yet your heart will toughen, and that your mind
to learn from mistakes, a swear you bind
so punish your self, a penance you pay
to a better life, to a better way
so wake to a morning with new direction
avoid deceit, misconception
and again you’re happy, or so it might seem
as sleepy eyes awake from dream
