alive
it never ceases to amaze me
the way we humans crave the
touch of another living creature
we want to feel the purring of a cat
against our chest
along with the beating of our own hearts
the lengths we will go
to remember the feel of
sweat
breathlessness
and skin on skin
or the accidental brush
of fingertips
rushing past on the sidewalk
or the warmth of a lover's breath
against your cheek
the taste of their lips
gaze connected
fingers interlocked
anything
to remind us that we are alive
