Perspective
One thing and it all comes back
Flowers.
The graveside, the roses they gave us
that either represent that everything will die
or that there is always comfort and beauty
left in this world.
Caskets.
I guess they're either like a threat to life,
like a trap waiting to spring
or like a treasure chest
preserving its best,
respecting, honoring.
Church.
where everything took place
all the pain, you could see it on my face
I guess it's either a place to ignore
or a reminder that we are survivors.
IV drips.
They drip slowly, hauntingly,
bringing back memories
of all his hospital stays
but really that medicine was life-giving,
I guess you could view it that way.
Pain.
I wish I could change,
he suffered
but he fought because he loved us,
so the fight was not in vain
he didn't "lose," because he fought till his last breath,
he had fears but he was brave,
even in the face of death.
But one thing, and it all comes back.
One memory brings back unpleasant facts
but now it's my turn to be strong
like he was for so long
it will never be the same;
my thinking is the only thing I can change.
