Thorns
Rose pedals
Floating softly in the wind
I trace them back to the stem
The beautiful creation remains
Yet it’s just a stem that stays
The pedals have been plucked
By a girl who couldn’t figure out if the boy loved her or not
I dig up the stem and take it home
It sits on the mantle where everyone can see
“All you grew were thorns” is what they tell me
But they don’t know that the beautiful girl who removed all those pedals and left me with a root
Pierced my heart and planted a seed
That continues to grow in me
Until I can make a crown of thorns
To remove all her pain and wipe all the tears away
So that when she comes home
All she will see is that rose in full bloom
And begin to remove the pedals as she did before
But this time I’m there to hold her
And tell her I want nothing more
