Cellar Door
"This one famous linguistic once said that of all the phrases in the English language, of all the endless combinations of words in all of history, that Cellar Door is the most beautiful." (Donnie Darko)
If I were to hold my palms out to you,
and the word written in ink on my left hand was no,
and if the word written in ink on my right hand was yes,
which hand would you gently close if I asked you,
"do you think I'm beautiful?".
If the life line in carved into my flesh said I was going to die tomorrow,
would you take my tears and draw a curve to extend it,
or would you find beauty in something that's fading?
Is the word "beautiful" even pretty,
or is it a harsh blend of sounds meaning something
that I will never see myself as being?
And out of all of the beautiful things to say
would the phrase 'cellar door' touch your heart?
