The Writers, We
We scribble words onto sometimes-flat surfaces
like they’ll evaporate
and be heard by no one
We struggle for hours at a time
to conjure two sentences
that feel worthy to speak
We ask our friends for feedback
and the one negative comment they make
rings in the dead of night
And thus is the struggle:
we want others to hear our words
when sometimes we don’t even want to
