The Picture of Him
Yellowed from the lighting
Blurry
Unfocused
The door open
I was unable to see his whole face
He told me not to take the photo
He said he was ugly
Too pale
Too short
Too fat
Yet I found him beautiful
More handsome than any model
In a split second
Or so it seemed
A man came in
A hood covered his face
A pistol in his hand
I dropped the camera
Shattering the instrument
A gun to his head
POW, POW, POW
My love lay motionless
Blood spatter on the wall
The tan floor mixed with red
His pupils wide
Somehow I survived
Unharmed
Somehow the film did
The picture my final memory of him
My body unharmed
My mind scarred
