Excuse me, Miss
I don't know what war is,
And I don't care what you say, Miss.
I don't need to know what war does,
or what is accomplishes, because
I do know that it takes my daddy away,
And my momma tells me every night to pray.
So I don't want to hear all your statistics
About fighting and fancy ballistics.
I just want my daddy back
Alive, not in a box with a plaque.
You can call me ignorant,
You can call me dumb,
Bet you don't have a momma who's cold and numb;
Or a missing parent who might not return
All for the sake of a few dollars to earn.
So forgive me, Teacher, excuse me now
But if war is so great, please just tell me how?
