The Woman In White
Her dress is white, like heavens bride
No drop of temptation has stained her soul
No scar of trial ever to age her skin
She has the image of the innocent and naïve
No one can see what’s hidden behind the curtain
The actress behind the stage
She lifts the veil, so to meet her eternal groom
The angelic hosts are aghast
The lie of the mask is now dead
The innocence in her eyes is now stripped away
Like the fall of the perfect world
Her heart is now visible and tainted.
Just as she reveals her face,
Men cast their judgmental damnation
They look upon her body with their sinful hearts
They cast her out with the expressions on their faces
From the mouths of the deceived come
Legions of hurtful whispers, the first death.
These words fill the woman’s ears
And tear at her damaged self,
Fiercely knowing at her spirit
Screaming voices rage storms in her crowded mind.
Her veins become dry with the absence of blood
Draining skin of all pigment, her eyes are now lifeless and empty
The congregation falls silent
The woman falls from her heavenly pedestal without a cry
Never to wake again, her soul has found its grave
This is the second death.
