The Drop
At that old house
In withering walls
I hide, heavy breathing
The linen closet’s long, quick drop.
My brother, young and pudgy
Walks through the hall
I await his arrival
For a universally shocking prank.
I’m on the floor, a thump
Radiates throughout that home,
They come running I get up, “Are you okay?”
Blood darkens my fingers and hair.
At that old house
I leave, with no tears, but
My bones scared stiff
The linen closet’s long, quick drop.
