Before
this is probably the longest it’s ever taken me
to start one poem
cause it’s like
i keep trying to write down you know
how i feel all that stuff
and you just leap up and dance off my pages
leaving the words hollow and empty
with none of your flair.
i tried to spin your essence somehow
into the verses i composed
but they don’t stand up when compared to
the poetry of your laugh.
when i attempted to extoll
all of your virtues
my foolishness over you was highlighted
by your vast sums of knowledge
and your wisdom.
and your smiles
so like honey lovely and golden
you bestow
so like honey
so sweetly.
and i’ve just never wanted
anything like you
before
