reluctance
I dig my heels into the dirt,
I breathe in hard
I breathe out harder.
I yell poems into the unlistening sky,
I punch stuffed animals which don’t feel,
I slice skin which peels like ribbons.
I hold my hands up.
I cross my arms across my chest.
I look down at my worn shoes.
I say, quietly, no.
I say louder, no.
I scream to the sky, no.
Stop.
You do not listen.
That is when i realize,
I am not making
A single sound.
