New Years Brings New Me
By: Shannon Seguin

The clock chimed
I’d been waiting all night
Focusing on the main goal
Sweating through my shirt
Only wanting to
Make it to midnight
Then you’re done
You can climb in your car
Relieved because now you can start over

Finally the ball drops
My head pounds
I’m tired and mad as I watch
Glasses chime as the drink splashes out
It’s a new year
It’s my year

The mood in my head switched
This was no longer make it to midnight
It was make it through the year
So next year I won’t be sweating
From regret and lose
Next year I won’t be this me
Just everybody wait
Everybody will see
