I Am Still a Child
I am still in many ways
a child
I’ve never lived alone
I’ve never been in love
I’ve never cried on the telephone,
been wise or experienced
I doubt if I have ever
moved one soul
with the silent words I put to paper
I stare into the space,
eyes seemingly blind
a face searching, finding
glimpses of beauty
Amazon feathers and colors
sound of the rushing river
the comforting smell of baking rice
on a sunny day
I remember them
and they bloom, bloom and grow
they are mine
to water, to have, to know
pieces of a paradise
they dance with me
reflect upon my face
just as clear water
shines with truth and life
I stare, I remember, I dance, I live
with those who share the brush
to paint our intertwining stories
I am still a child
I’ve never lived alone
I’ve never been in love
I’ve never cried on the telephone,
been wise or experienced
I doubt if I have ever
moved one soul
with the silent words I put to paper
but I am growing,
I am learning
I am living
