What Is Childhood?
I hear their lies and excuses.
I see the marks left on their bodies.
Every now and then she lets the truth slip out and it's horrible.
Last night I knew they were ok because I had them here with me.
But what about tonight?
What about tomorrow?
I know they won't be and there's nothing I can do.
They're not the same happy kids anymore.
I can see it in their eyes.
I can't protect them though I try.
When they're in my arms I feel nothing but love,
but when I'm forced to let them go
I feel nothing be pure devastation.
All I can do is let them know they're loved.
But love can't stop what's going on.
At least they'll have one good memory to look back on.
