hurting: different
my body hurts.
i thought for a while
about how it hurt
not like when i am tired;
there is sand in my eyes.
not like when i bleed;
that is too sharp.
not like heartache:
a cliched pain in my ribcage,
or poison and glass in my throat.
it is the physical, deep,
erratic pain of one
with a restless mind.
a lover couldn’t cure this,
i thought. that means it’s
so beyond mental
that it might not heal
