Pleasantries
Your eyes are warm
once they land on me,
though I've been rooted to my spot
for some moments now
The arms that embrace me
are not stiff,
but they only hold on
just long enough
The conversation we used to have
was heavy with substance
Now the words are so light
they float away with each exhaled breath
I am beaming
under your weary smile
and a crisp silence
hangs over our head
I wonder if you are grateful to leave
because seeing me pulls up drowned memories;
Or it could be
because I was meant from the beginning
to be left behind
