Chains
Tell me love-
How many chains
Chain you to this mattress
This mattress that looks like war-
How many adversities
Tie your hands behind your back
And your eyes covered
I remember laying with you
Until 4 in the morning
When you curled up next to me
I imagined us staring at each other
From opposite sides of the room
And I felt much more comfortable
Than contorting my body
To fold into yours
We both sunk into each other
Ignoring the chains on our backs
And ankles
And wrists
That were cutting off our circulation-
Our previous blood flow
As every pain I've ever felt
Rose out of my back into your chest
Like a spike
I am afraid that if we fall in love
Our chains may intertwine
And interlock
We would be tied down twice and tight
Your chains would become mine
As mine would become yours
And we both know
With every chain on our body
That as we have very much found each other
We are lost within ourselves
