A Watch's Hands and a Beating Heart
I hold in my palm
An aspect of silver
An array of windowed glass
Enlightening each moment
Ticking by as the hands progress
Each hour by hour
Each minute by minute
Each tick echoes its time
Pillar against pillar
In the mausoleums of my mind
It haunts me through to midnight
As each moment pierces way
Through my celestial beating heart
And the blood inside my veins
I try to ignore the movements
Of a watch’s hands
And a beating heart
For whenever I try to recognize-
Time reminds
A forgetful I
That each moment that passes me by-
Is a moment that
I am not me.
