Tarnished Heartstrings
I’m sorry that I beat your heartstrings
Like the worn leather of a weathered drum.
I should have been more careful,
When I heard the soft horizon hum.
Dreams are so soft-spoken,
And yet nightmares ring aloud
I should have left and saved you,
Before leaving you up on that cloud.
So now your heart pricks sad tunes
On the lonely harp of rust
For I left your love to tarnish,
When I left you in the dust.
