Lessons For My Lover
I can’t help but wonder
What if you sunk your toes into these exact grains of sand
And jumped at the scorching sensation
What if that wave knocked you over like it did to me
And threw you down into a dark place?
What if this same crab passed by you
While you were on the way to retrieve your towel
And what if the words in the sand
Were written by you
If I recall correctly
I wrote the same words too
And I wonder
If when the sun sets if you’re lying there thinking of me
Where I am
What I’m doing
Who I’m with
Because without a doubt
I am lying here thinking of you
And I wonder if you realize how beautiful life really is
And how the littlest things can make you happy
How the seashells have traveled to endless parts of the world
And the sound of the waves erase everything from memory
Even for just a little while
Because if I did anything to change you
I know I taught you that
Even when the sun begins to fade
The beauty stays
