Modern Politician
I’m the leader of the free world.
I’m the U.S.A.’s vox populi.
The common people voted for me,
Because they wanted a person in charge who was their ally.
I beat out all the other candidates
And hired my own staff,
Waving out all that old stuff from the past.
I hired important people to work for me,
I helped the corporations,
so they would help represent me.
I kissed babies and shook hands,
Shook off the awkward questions
And demands.
I live with my wife
In a house that’s white
And I eat dinners with the ambassador there
Making him wait an hour out of spite.
I make impressive speeches to the masses,
Who watch my press conferences through
The American opiate.
My hair’s getting grayer,
I’m feeling like a sailor,
Standing on top of this unstable country.
The clock keeps ticking,
The tabloids keep snitching,
and we don’t get anything done.
We shut down,
We bunkered down
All the important people already inside.
We left the every men out.
