Rubber Band Venn Diagrams

The intoxicating bubbles of brandy
Exhume the corpse of our intellect.
Frizzy-haired, we drunkenly create
Rubber band Venn diagrams.

We're just pretending to function,
To be alive.
We fit into the separate crescents
Of Life's rubber band Venn diagram:
The college students,
The rednecks,
The technical virgins.

We attempt to axe down the social norms,
Our social constructs,
Only to join a prison of outcasts
The moment we supposedly achieve freedom.
The ramp of the social hierarchy is steep
Yet we truck on.

For what?

It won't matter when you're six feet
Under freshly displaced dirt.

It won't matter if you're a bejeweled prince
Or a nimble-fingered lover
Or a ragged, tattered soul on the sidewalk.

When Death cruelly snaps
The rubber band Venn diagram,
Will you be prepared?

I have a list of elite poets to whom I've subscribed and requested that I receive an alert via email if they submit anything new or post something in the fourms. So that's how I know. Plus, I'm psychic. So...yeah. I don't think I have anything new...but you're welcome to read whatever you choose.

Ah, yes, I remember this poem. First of all, it reminds me of TFIOS due to the Venn Diagrams. Which I didn't know what they were until you sent me this poem. the use of rhetorical questions and the sassiness here and there, again, remind me of the great Marrianne Moore. (Especially the last stanza. Poignant!) I love the metaphor of Life being a Venn Diagram. It's original. Overrall, 5/5.
