Our Time Spent
In the middle of a late foggy day,
you called me something beautiful
I know this is not true
But in your voice
I could find sincerity
You later said that I am sunshine
Why would you say that
if you knew
What darkness hides under my exterior?
You said that you were perfect for me
That may have been,
as the scars we had fit each other’s perfectly
like lost pieces of a puzzle long forgotten
You said that I was in love
I think I was,
because no matter what I told myself
I could always be found at your side
You called me your hope
In your eyes I saw fear
staring back at me
So I tried my hardest
to be your optimist
You went to sleep
Our hands were clasped so tight,
fingers became locked
We both tried so desperately
to keep you from slipping away
You said you loved me
I know you did,
I know you did
