studies in memory v: tangerine
it was christmastime but i swear it felt like spring
home again and all brand new, i loved you,
my novelty of a best friend,
with every iota of spirit i could muster that year.
how our conversations rambled and never ceased
despite the crunchy gears of time and technology
and how i grinned
through mugs of minted coffee
at every song we sang
feet propped up on the table
next to the crackling little woodstove
undressing a perfect tangerine
giddy to the point of hysteria
just because of you
and your sweet-sour stories
of being free.
