Assassins
The street lamps have gone out
The shadows have grown
They ripple, they move
The cloaks have come out to play
Darkness is their mother
Murder is their game
Silent footsteps barely touch the ground
Shadows cover their journey
No flashing of the double-edged sword
No arsenic seen to chafe your throat
Hidden, hiding, never known to be there
They sneak, they creep
No one ever sees them
No one ever hears them
Calmer than death upon the wind
Now, in the dead of night
Creeping slowly out of sight
A taken life, a snuffed out light
It's left the body, taken flight
The flame of life, burning bright
The fire's dead with the end of night
Now the shadows are creeping back
The cloaks are gone, no trace found
The blood drips off the frame
It soaks through the bed
Leaves the death stain of red
The nocturnals are resting
Awaiting nightfall's return
Darkness shall awaken them once more
