My Beloved City
As I walk through the streets
My beloved city
Beloved by me, not others
So many fear the Joburg dark
But not fear of fairytales or myths
Fear of real, of life
Fear of others
Murder and strife
My beloved city
Beautiful by day
Warm and inviting
Bright and busy
With life and activity
But by night
The leeches come out
They leech the life and the warmth
And other things more solid
And they bring about others' doom
Once my beloved city
Now my hated tomb
