The things that walk out when you open your mind. -Dylan McCoy

I just want to help
I don’t want to hurt anyone,
Scare anyone,
I just want to fix the broken ones
I try to mumble soothing words
But all my attempts go unheard
They are failures,
So what am I?
I can’t help those people who
Lie to themselves
Cry in their sleep
Think that they’re nothing,
But they’re important to me
I want them to see
That they are beautiful
Despite scars on their arms
And their hearts
That they can be helped,
Maybe not by me,
But by someone, somewhere,
Far across the sea

I just want to help them
Become unbroken
Maybe not whole,
But fill in those holes
That they were forced to create
I want to help them erase
The hate they feel for themselves
Boiling inside
Hold their hands if they cried
And be there when they say
“I wish I had died”
And convince them that those were lies
That they had been told
By people who would spend their lives growing old
And cold
In the depths of their soul

I just want to help them
But somehow I can’t
No matter what I say
No matter how hard I try
They continue to cry
Silent
Quiet tears
Meant to be unnoticed
For all of their years
They think they’re alone
And because of that
They’re prone to
Hurt themselves
Scar themselves
Scream in the night
Sob with no emotion
See without light.

I just want to help them.
That’s all I want to do
But I can’t
I’m an ant
But still I try
To ensure
That no one
Ever must cry.
