Fading Away
A perfect row of houses,
Tidy, manicured lawns,
She blended into the walls of the house
like the colors of paint swirled together on a painter's pallet.
Once she sparkled with a heart of pure gold,
but with each contribution of another person's idea of her,
her shine faded away.
She became the pale pink of the walls,
She became the gaudy yellow of the apron at her waist,
the unnatural white of a fake smile,
Plop! Swirl. Dab.
She became simply part of a painting,
a decoration upon the wall.
