Receding Shimmer
Being at peace is the rhythm of raindrops,
repetitive and steady.
The wind lightly pounding
the drops against the side panels.
It lulls every being to
a chilly hush, but
with one crack of thunder,
and a flash of lightning, an
outline of a person’s face appears,
slowly pushing its way into a recollection
of a contorted childhood. Flooding
in with the now pouring
rain relentlessly crashing into the house.
Disturbing the fond serenity and
replacing it with
a chaotic rush
of buried short films
in a never ending cycle
of forgive and can’t forget.
