Beating Night
Dear Knight,
Sitting high upon your noble
steed; I have fallen
from mine. So very far
away, I see shadows
between the bones; I feel
teeth, ribs, hips and
tail, grating the black dust,
biting dry air;
swallowing growls,
choking. Blood
Low pressure.
Low pulse.
My horse breathes
for me? heart beats
for you. Dear Knight,
I’ll rise, I’ll ride, I’ll
burn, if only calories.
For you need not fight
for me. I’ll wake;
dress this cold
skeleton; mount
the scarlet mare.
If only you would light the
spark, and melt the
ice, crusting my eyes.
