The Debt That All Men Pay
A soldier’s red wound across his chest
A stabbing pain under an old man’s vest
A silent visitor in the night
A piercing scream, leaving nothing right
But friend or foe?
None can say
Some just need the pain away
Others wished for a single breath
To utter last words before their death
What remains when death strikes?
More succumb to it’s deadly spikes
But death could be one’s best friend
When suffering simply will not end
So friend of foe?
None can say
But neither is truly the right way
Death remains the debt that all men pay.
