Mirror Image
Mirrors don’t tell a person everything
As factual as they seem they’re missing a few key points about you
They don’t inform you of your personality,
Of your heart
They only give back the barest perception of you
The one that only looks lifeless
The one that every stranger sees
These strangers will never know the real you
And for that I pity them
They will never know the little things that make you up
Like how to tell when your laugh is genuine
And when it is only to be polite
But I can assure you that if they knew that your smile was sincere
They would feel as if their whole world has erupted with starlight
I hate when you stand in front of that mirror
I hate when your eyes become glass
Instead of the gemstones I know
Because the longer you stand there
The harder it is to pull you away from your own cracks
There’s nothing in that mirror you will find
That I can’t tell you myself
It serves as a reminder of all of your faults
All of your mistakes
And it’s a shrine to something horrible
But I can tell you what it doesn’t show
I can tell you the things about you
That extend beyond the sheet of glass
And I know that it’s hard to believe something
When it seems like there’s no proof
But I’m hoping that we can tear down the mirror together
And nothing will ever hold you back from being who you are
