The Game
“It’s not a game,”
We always say.
This is life
No time for play.
No time for imagination to soar
This is life
And life is war.
Don’t fool around
Don’t turn away
Don’t waste your time
Don’t ruin a day
There isn’t time
For laughter here.
This is life
And life is fear.
First,
And last,
And everything in between.
You can only truly win
If you’re composed
And you’re serene
There isn’t time
For third place
No room for the fourth.
This is life
And life is more.
Sleep is for the weak
Sustenance, for mortals.
I’m afraid we’re far too busy
Building imaginary portals.
Portals to the past,
Portals to the present,
And portals to the future
And if you stay, then you’ll regret it
So think before you choose
But time is running out
This is life
And life is doubt.
Don’t overthink each decision
It all falls apart
With the wrong incision
Life is life
And life is death
Life is here
And it means to maim.
So we have learned
To play the game.
