Loving Life
I used to be a ball of light
When I was innocent
And believed in things like hope
I used to shine so bright
(Can you still it when my eyes aren’t clouded?)
But things are starting to stick to me
And I can’t shake them off
They twist and morph
As my doubt feeds them
They grow and spread across my body
(And my light is held captive)
And now I’m covered in a skin
That I try desperately to crawl out of
When I tear it
Red flows out
And there’s something in the river
Of my essence that stains the skin
(I think it’s love
But I wouldn’t know)
All I wonder
Is if loving life is such a crime
What could be worse punishment
Than what life already does to me?
