“Equality may perhaps be a right,
but no power on earth can ever turn it into a fact.”
It’s the basis of our
nation,
The core of our values –endlessly
Taught.

Explained.

Portrayed.

Lived.
We become
eternally
colorblind,
oblivious to money,
oblivious to stature,
“Before G-d we are all equally wise - and equally foolish”

Equality ends with our last breath.

Gravestones of all shapes and sizes.
Tall for the rich.
Short for the poor.
Barely a pebble for those who died as a baby.
Skyscrapers for priests.
Majestic tombs for beloved public figures.

Why does everything change when you are gone?
Are those with
grander
tombstones more
important
or
superior
to those with
ones below par?
?
Generations post-death,
our impact on the world is
forgotten.

We are no longer seen as
Equal –as one in the same.

We are seen as
Grand size,
Beautiful marble,
Heartfelt words depicting how much we were loved,

Or as

Meek height,
A hunk of speckled boulder,
And monotonous words with a half-hearted
Rest

In

Peace

If we are equal, why can’t we
be physically seen
as such after our passing?

“Equality may perhaps be a right,
but no power on earth can ever turn it into a fact.”
