Picking Stones
“I don’t have a heart.”
I’ve told you this from the start
There’s no getting through
Your head, as hard as rock
If I didn’t care … I wouldn’t be telling you.
Stuck between a rock and a heart place where my heart has no place because he took up all the space
It’s not you it’s just the last dog I was with knew how to scratch
The loyalty faded because I put him on too long of a leash
If I knew better I would’ve tightened the collar so hard his neck would have snapped.
A dog is a man’s best friend… I guess that myth failed me in the end.
Keep saying I’ll change and you’ll see it as clear as day
The pain from that heartbreak will never go away.
“I’ll never love again.”
I told Cupid a while ago to stay away
Because the last time his heart shaped dagger pierced my delicate skin
Lets just say the wound hasn’t been whole ever since.
You say you’re different,
But it’s not true,
You’re common.
Kicking rocks and I’ve always picked up big stones
Maybe a pebble won’t break my sensitive glass home
“I have a heart?”
Ta Tum
Ta Tum
Ta Tum
My heart has been beating but now it’s working
Just like a drummer needs every limb to play
I need every limb to hold you
The rhymes of our hearts are in sync
Your effort no longer goes unnoticed
I see how hard you try not to miss a beat.
“You’re my heart”
Thank you for guiding me and showing me love.
I’ve never wanted Cinderella’s life but you rescued me from a dark, cold, dusty cellar
Which I tried calling my heart
Kicking rocks and I stumbled upon a pebble that changed into my Prince Charming
I’m ready to narrate my own happy ever after
Because with you everything feels whole
You’re the one I always want to hold
Looking around at all the hearts floating by
I realized Cupid’s not such a bad guy
This time he finally got it right
This time love and me don’t have to fight.
