Artist's Lament
Pencil shavings lie on the floor
A candle flickers apathetically
An over-sharp pencil taps the blank paper
I remember every detail, every word
The lights reflecting off your eyes
Your hair falling over your face
The intensity in your voice
The blindness of your heart
The empty page leers back at me
Daring me to darken it's surface
Daring me to recreate the scene
I lift the pencil boldly
But it never touches the paper
I sit and watch the candle wax melt
As time mercilessly marches on
Alas! For the page remains empty
