Gentle Arms
The pained expression on your face.
I rush over,
Arms extended;
Heart open.
My heart swells with sadness as
You sit in front of me.
I whisper in your ear and I stroke your hair,
Praying that I can somehow bring you comfort.
You latch onto me like a life preserver;
Grabbing hold of me,
You don’t want to slip
away
And drown.
Safe in my arms, you let yourself break.
For now, you feel safe, if only in this one
Moment.
Shaking, you stare up into my eyes.
Filled with fear,
I feel you fidget in my arms.
Solace can only be found in the abolition
Of these memories from your nightmares.
At once, the world is at peace in your head.
No longer tormented internally,
You look up at me and smile,
Your eyes glimmering from underneath your tears.
Ameliorated for now.
Safe for now.
At peace for now.
A simple power:
Human contact.
