Song of a Writer
I stare at that blank sheet of paper
So pale
So menacing
Tapping my pencil against my desk
Reading “Ticonderoga” so many times
It isn’t a word anymore
I tear through my brain
Searching
For something
Anything
To write about
But I can’t
My mind is blank
Like that sheet of paper
The frustration is overwhelming
My brows furrow
So much
They all think
I’m about to punch a wall
My teeth clench
So tight
They all think
My jaw will glue itself shut
People think it’s hard to write
It’s really not
I do it all the time
Words just keep on coming
Like a pot that’s boiling over
Oh, I long to write
But, alas
I must say
Tis so hard to get started
