Craig
I see you standing by the food stand
And make my way over,
Hoping for a special moment
As I remember that night
When the stars were out
And the music played
And we danced close together
With our arms around each other
Even though we’d only met that day.
I remember how excited I was
So excited and happy and hopeful,
But so nervous that I couldn’t speak.
The night was so beautiful
And it was all so nice
That I just kept smiling
Even though it hurt because
I knew that my silence was hurting me
And making my chances worse.
But I just couldn’t find anything to say
Because my brain wouldn’t work
With you standing so close to me.
And now I hoped that I could speak
And maybe we’d relive that night sometime.
“Hi, Craig.” I say as I reach you
But you just look at me oddly, and say
“Do I know you?”
“Um, yeah, we…” I stammered
As I try to figure out
How could you possibly forget me?
How could you not know me?
But they’re calling you
And before I could find the right words,
You turn and walk away
Taking my hopes with you.
